St. Cloud State University student Eryn Bloom has been awarded the 2024-26 Future Leaders Scholarship through the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM). The $40k national scholarship is only given to one person yearly who has demonstrated interest and initiative in working in the floodplain sciences.
Bloom is a double major in Hydrology and Earth Science, with a concentration in Environmental Geology. She is a member of the Honors College and serves as President of the Earth & Environmental Alliance, a new student club she recently founded which focuses on education and involvement in local ecosystems.
“I am honored to receive the ASFPM Future Leaders Scholarship; this achievement would not have been possible without the invaluable guidance and encouragement from my mentors and the dedicated faculty in the Department of Atmospheric and Earth Sciences,” Bloom said.
Bloom has spent two years as a volunteer water monitor through the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, checking quality samples from local lakes or rivers. She also complete a stormwater engineering internship with the City of Burnsville over the summer.
“Growing up in Minnesota, I’ve been inspired by our state’s strong commitment to preserving water resources,” Bloom said. “I am excited to share this spirit of stewardship and collaboration with others across the nation, working together to safeguard our environment and communities.”
