ROCKPORT — In 2021, Seacoast Security, Inc. of Rockport, launched a scholarship program to help fund further education in the skilled trades. The program offers two, $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a career in a trade or technical occupation at a Maine technical school in the Fall of 2024.
Seacoast Security is proactively addressing the shortage of young skilled tradespeople by inspiring more to enter these fields and find rewarding careers in New England. The recent publication “Why Gen Z Can Solve The Skilled Labor Shortage Crisis” by Forbes stresses the industry deficit many companies are facing as thousands of boomers retire and the lack of interest younger generations convey towards these jobs. The report addresses the importance of enticing Gen Z Americans in industries such as construction, plumbing, and electrical work, which are facing increasing labor shortages.
“In light of this, Seacoast Security is proud to continue their annual scholarship program and encourage the next generation of trade and technical workers,” said Seacoast Security, in a news release.
“Securing young proficient workers remains an ongoing challenge for us, as it is a struggle for numerous other companies across the country,” said Stephen Haynes, owner at Seacoast Security, Inc. “The expertise of educated tradesmen is indispensable to delivering top-notch work and ensuring customer satisfaction in our company. We feel strongly about this scholarship’s ability to entice the younger demographic to delve into said careers and create a booming future for Maine’s in-demand trade positions.”
The Seacoast Security scholarship program will award $1,000 each, to two full-time students enrolled in an electrical field/program at a Maine technical school this fall. To qualify, students must have a 2.5 GPA minimum. Payments will be made directly to the school on behalf of the student. To submit an application, students can visit https://seacoastsecurity.com/scholarships and apply online. The scholarship application deadline is Tuesday, April 30 after which the Seacoast Security scholarship committee will review all applications and announce the winners early in May of 2024.
“As a company reliant on skilled labor, we are committed to providing students with the knowledge to launch their careers in the trades,” said Scott Haynes, owner at Seacoast Security, Inc. “We aspire to see increased support from other companies for similar initiatives, fostering awareness and expanding opportunities in these vital fields. At Seacoast Security, achieving excellence through cutting-edge technology is pivotal to our success, and an educated workforce is essential to achieving this outcome.”
