LUMBERTON — The SECU Foundation, a charitable organization funded by the members of State Employees’ Credit Union, is providing funds for up to 30 local students to receive an SECU Bridge to Career scholarship valued at $500 for study at Robeson Community College.
The SECU Bridge to Career Program was introduced in 2018 to help students seeking to obtain careers with sustainable wages in their local communities through North Carolina’s workforce development program. Administered by each college, the initiative focuses on assisting individuals with finding career opportunities through eligible training programs that lead to state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials. Scholarship funding will be applied to educational and other related expenses.
“We are thrilled at the interest and growth in this program as well as the positive impact it’s making in the lives of hundreds of North Carolinians each year,” said SECU Foundation Executive Director Jama Campbell. “Our collaborative effort with state educators across the state is a wonderful example of how we are working together to help students achieve their educational goals and create a better future for themselves, their families, and our communities. On behalf of SECU Foundation and SECU members, we offer our congratulations to these recipients.”
With the combined commitments for the SECU Bridge to Career and People Helping People Community College Scholarship programs, SECU Foundation funding for the North Carolina Community College System totals over $1 million annually. Total funding to date for the SECU Bridge to Career Program is $6.3 million.
