STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — State Senator Andrew Lanza and The New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators are accepting applications for scholarships to be awarded at the Annual Italian-American Day in Albany.
Academic and athletic scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each are available to eligible residents of the 24th Senate District who are current college students or high school seniors entering college.
Students who apply for the academic scholarship must have demonstrated a grade average of 85 percent and over, have good conduct and demonstrate the dedication to pursue and complete a higher education.
They should be active in the community and extracurricular activities, reside within the 24th Senate district, and demonstrate financial need.
In addition to the above qualifications, students who apply for an Athletic Scholarship must also be involved in an organized sport or in sports programs. Students can apply for both opportunities.
The Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is a bipartisan organization of New York State Senate and Assembly members who are actively involved in promoting and celebrating the State’s Italian-American community.
The mission of the Conference is to work hard to elevate and highlight Italian-American contributions to the State of New York and beyond, in all aspects of society, including literature, the arts, architecture and politics.
Scholarship Winners will be announced in April and will be contacted directly.
Winners should plan to be in Albany on Monday, May 19 to receive their award at the Italian-American Day Celebration.
Note: Applicants need not be of Italian-American heritage in order to apply but must live in Lanza’s 24th district, which includes the mid-Island and South Shore.
Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on the deadline date of Sunday, March 30.
