A Seneca Falls native is celebrating an early milestone after becoming the first recipient of a new scholarship at Northeast College of Health Sciences.
Allen Hawker, a 2011 graduate of Mynderse Academy, recently completed his first trimester in the college’s Radiologic Technology program as the inaugural recipient of the Menzo Case Scholarship.
Hawker said attending college in Seneca Falls fulfilled a longtime goal.
“The program and College are a really good fit for me,” he said.
Hawker grew up in the Finger Lakes, moving into his great-grandparents’ home on Cayuga Lake when he was five. With the college located in his hometown, he said he always admired seeing students travel to Seneca Falls to pursue medical careers.
“It was amazing to be in a small town where people were traveling here to become doctors,” Hawker said.
After graduating from Mynderse Academy, Hawker studied psychology and behavioral neuroscience at Buffalo State, where he worked with functional MRI. His interest in medical imaging continued to grow through teaching, hospital work, and hands-on experience in an orthopedic office.
When Northeast College launched new undergraduate programs in 2024, Hawker said the timing matched his career goals. The Menzo Case Scholarship helped make that transition possible.
The scholarship honors the late Menzo Case, a longtime community leader and member of the college’s Board of Trustees. It supports students from the Finger Lakes pursuing associate degrees in radiologic technology or diagnostic medical sonography who show a commitment to community service.
“I hope to honor Mr. Case by being a supportive team member, giving back to the community and helping others achieve their goals,” Hawker said.
Hawker has volunteered in after-school programs, chess clubs, math enrichment sessions, and local schools. Looking ahead, he hopes to train in advanced imaging fields such as CT and MRI, with a long-term goal of teaching.
“I want to be fully immersed in the field,” he said, while keeping service and community at the center of his work.
