(KRON) — Seven Bay Area high school seniors earned engineering scholarships from Amazon on Friday and were invited to intern in the online retail giant’s innovation lab, Lab126, in Sunnyvale.
The all-star students were picked by Amazon’s Future Engineer initiative, which provides each student with up to $40,000 to pursue an education in computer science, engineering or related degrees in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) at a college or university of their choice.
In addition, students will be offered a paid internship at Amazon following their freshman year of college.

The Bay Area high school seniors are among just 63 recipients in California to have been selected for the program, which aims at increasing access to computer science education for students from underserved communities.
