Seven Countries That Offer Fully Funded Scholarships to International Students
Rabat – Many highschoolers and university students dream of going abroad to pursue their undergraduate and graduate studies. However, due to high costs of tuition fees and living expenses in developed countries, this dream may be difficult to achieve. For this reason, having some sort of financial aid, scholarship, or grant can help lift the burden from the student. This article presents seven countries where you can apply for a fully funded scholarship to go to college.
As many are keen on the American dream, one way to benefit from a fully funded scholarship to the States is to apply for the Fulbright Program. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program connects motivated and successful graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals from all backgrounds with unmatched opportunities in all academic fields through partnerships with more than 140 nations worldwide, including Morocco. Participants in the program go on to graduate school, engage in research, or teach English abroad. The Fulbright scholarship covers full tuition, round-trip travel to one’s home country, health insurance, living stipend, and visa sponsorship.
A Short-term Exchange Program under Global Affairs Canada’s International Scholarships Program, the “Study in Canada Scholarships” is open to eligible students from specific countries – mostly those in Africa, including Morocco – who are already enrolled full-time at post-secondary institutions in an eligible country. The scholarship value is about $10,200 for a 4-month exchange and may be used towards study permit/visa fees, economy-class direct flight to the home country, medical insurance, books and supplies, and living expenses. Canadian post-secondary schools interested in hosting students must be a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and hold a current student exchange agreement with the student’s home institution that waives tuition fees for scholarship recipients.
The UK Chevening Scholarship is open to students who are citizens of a Chevening-eligible country or territory (Morocco included), have completed an equivalent of an undergraduate degree, have at least two years of work experience, applied to three different eligible UK universities and have received an unconditional offer from one of these three, and who are committed to return to their home country for a minimum of two years after the grant has finished. The award covers the full payment of tuition fees (one-year Master program), flight expenses, and a monthly personal living stipend for housing and living.
The German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – DAAD) offers fully funded scholarships to international students from eligible countries (Morocco included) that wish to pursue their graduate or postgraduate studies in Germany. The duration of the program is 12-24 months for the Master’s degree and 36 months for the PhD degree. Applicants must hold a four-year Bachelor’s degree that is not more than six years old and should have at least two years of professional experience. The DAAD scholarship benefits include free tuition fee, travel allowance, health and accident insurance, and monthly stipends for living expenses (850-1200 €). A variety of fields of study is available for the scholarship application.
In recent years, South Korea has become one of the top destinations for international students due to the good reputation of its educational system and the spread of Korean culture worldwide. The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) was created by the Government of Korea to give overseas students the chance to study at both undergraduate and graduate levels at higher education facilities in Korea. The scholarship intends to improve cross-border educational interaction and deepen friendships between participating nations and Korea. Applicants must be a citizen of a partner country (Moroccans being eligible), be under 25 for undergraduate programs (and under 40 for graduate programs), have graduated from high school (or hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s for graduate programs), and have a maintained an 80% cumulative grade point average (CGPA). Scholarship benefits include round-trip airfare, settlement allowance, monthly allowance, complete tuition, and medical insurance.
The UAE University in Al Ain offers a wide range of scholarships to all national and international students who are interested in pursuing their Master’s or PhD degree in the UAE. This graduate scholarship concerns a various number of majors and covers almost all the expenses one will need in their studies. This includes full tuition fees, monthly stipends, medical insurance, and some extra bonuses.
Finally, Mauritius: a tiny island in southern Africa and an unexpected choice when considering study abroad options. For full-time, on-campus undergraduate programs tenable in Mauritian public higher education institutions (HEIs), the Government of the Republic of Mauritius is providing scholarships to deserving students who are resident citizens of the African Union or African Commonwealth countries. Therefore, Moroccan students are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Candidates must be proficient in English, have successfully completed high school education, and have at least an average grade of 60%. The scholarship covers tuition fees (up to a certain amount), living allowance, return economy-class airfare ticket, and free health care.
