WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – A $500 scholarship goes to a Jefferson Community College criminal justice student.
Olivia Wood received the scholarship Tuesday from Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Barnett, in conjunction with the New York State Sheriff’s Association, a tradition for 30 years.
“I was really honored. I didn’t realize what being with Mr. Alteri would mean with this kind of opportunity. I’m really, really honored,” said Wood.
“She was chosen out of a really good group of students which we’re really excited about. We believe she’s a good candidate for this year and recipient. She’s a good representation for our program,” said Paul Alteri, Wood’s professor.
“It’s very humbling to know that there’s quality people out there. There’s still a lot of good that want to get out there and help society, and change some things. This years recipient, Olivia Wood, is the perfect match,” said Jefferson County Sheriff Pete Barnett.
Wood wants to become a New York state trooper. She’ll start the academy after graduating from JCC in May.
