The 2025 Silver Valley Civitan Memorial Scholarships of $1,500 each were presented at South Davidson Middle High School to Chase A. Petteys (left) and Kylee R. Harris
Kylee R. Harris and Chase A. Petteys of South Davidson Middle High School have received the 2025 Silver Valley Civitan Memorial Scholarships of $1,500 each.
Both graduating students are ranked in the top five of their class, members of the National Honor Society, consistently on the A Honor Roll and graduates of Davidson-Davie Community College.
Petteys received endorsement letters from three faculty members. He is an outstanding tennis player, earning All-Conference recognition and the Coach’s Award in consecutive years. He also played on the school basketball team.
He will attend N. C. State University majoring in mechanical engineering. Petteys is the oldest son of Alan and Jessica Petteys of Lexington. In addition to his school work and sports, he is a shift and kitchen manager at Patriot Mart in Silver Valley having worked extended hours there for four years.
Harris loves jazz music and has been a member of both the marching and concert bands playing clarinet and alto saxophone.
During her four years in the FFA, Harris has served as local chapter president, vice-president and secretary in addition to regional and national offices. Harris has volunteered with Denton Beautification and been active in her church youth activities. She served as a lifeguard two years at the Denton Pool Club.
Harris will attend Catawba College majoring in pre-law and environmental studies. Kylee of Denton is the daughter of Kenneth Harris and Elizabeth Dennis.
The Silver Valley Civitan educational scholarships now total $76,200 granted annually for 37 years. The names of the 75 recipients are displayed on two perpetual plaques in the school Commons.
The 2025 grants are given in the memory of Troy Jarrell and Sam Arnold. Harris was honored with the Jarrell scholarship and Petteys with the Arnold grant.
