Everything Alexandria
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia has awarded scholarships to six Alexandria students, part of a group of over 100 recipients who will share more than $350,000 for the 2025-2026 school year.
These scholarships, which range from $1,200 to $5,000, assist students in managing the costs of higher education.
Sayed Hussaini and Naomi Zeleke, both Alexandria City High School graduates, have been awarded the Amin Family Scholarship. Hussaini will attend George Mason University, while Zeleke is headed to Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC).
Another NVCC-bound student, Alexandria City High School graduate Scarleth Oliva, received the Elizabeth Koury Scholarship.
Sonia Faizi, a Hayfield Secondary School graduate, earned two scholarships: the Michell Merhige Scholarship Fund and the William J. Foreman Memorial Scholarship Fund. She’ll be attending Virginia Commonwealth University.
Samatha Sanchez from Edison High School also received the Michell Merhige Scholarship Fund and will study at James Madison University.
Thomas Jefferson High School’s Savar Shrivastava was awarded the Plein Environmental Scholarship Fund to attend the College of William & Mary.
The Community Foundation manages 35 scholarship funds, many of which are endowed to support students for years to come. Volunteers carefully review applications to ensure a fair selection process.
Since 1978, the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia has connected generous donors with important causes. It serves Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties, as well as the Cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park.
