Six Master of Social Work (MSW) students from BU School of Social Work (BUSSW) have been awarded BU Women’s Council Scholarships at a ceremony featuring keynote speaker Dean Barbara Jones. These scholarships, which support women and those who identify as female in BU graduate programs, recognize their exceptional contributions and dedication to their fields and communities.
Allysha Dalzell (SSW’25): Dalzell is a veteran, mother, and wife to a VA firefighter who assists adults and adolescents with severe disabling mental illnesses. Currently she interns at a community mental health center, volunteers at her local fire department, and visits clinicians in her community to provide the best care and resources available to the people around her. Once she graduates, she hopes to work in community mental health, possibly in a group practice.
Danielle DeRosier (SSW’25): DeRosier is an online MSW student, single mother, and the senior director of community programs at a nonprofit in Connecticut assisting victims of domestic violence. In this role, she oversees the nonprofit’s counseling, court, and community education departments. Her experience in trauma-informed care for survivors of domestic violence has led her to provide training to various professionals throughout the state.
Melinda Grasso (SSW’25): Grasso is a single mother of two children and a second year in the school of social work at Boston University. Currently, she works as a paraprofessional at a Rhode Island elementary school in the same district she has worked in for nine years.
Madison McGonnigal (SSW’25): McGonnigal is earning an MSW with a clinical major. In 2020, she earned a BA in Cognitive Science from the University of Virginia. She plans to become a licensed clinical social worker to holistically support people both systemically and individually. She is currently working at a substance abuse recovery center to provide individual and group therapy to clients.
Nicole Pagliuca (SSW’24): Pagliuca is an online MSW student finishing her final year in the program.
Heather Rivera (SSW’25): Rivera is pursuing an online MSW with a macro major. She completed her BA in Psychology and English at Amherst College, where she focused on child development research. Currently, Heather is based in the Peoria, Illinois area working in the development department for a nonprofit that provides services to children in local hospitals. After completing her MSW, she plans to pursue a career in macro level policy and advocacy with a focus on policies relating to children.
