GEORGETOWN, Del. – Sussex Academy announces that sixth grade student Anna Liang of Lewes has won the Coastal Concerts Sussex County Council Award Scholarship for 2024-25.
Musically gifted students across Delmarva attending middle or high school, public or private institutions, are compete for the scholarship award. Both written essays and in-person auditions are evaluated to determine how scholarships are awarded.
The money can be used by the student to attend music camps, pay for university courses, instrument purchases or repairs, or music lessons.
Anna, who has been taking piano lessons since she was 5, discovered her love of playing the instrument after she enjoyed playing on a keyboard at home. She is in her first year at Sussex Academy where she performs in the school’s jazz band.
Outside of school, since 2022, Anna also participates in the annual Henle Piano Competition in addition to Musicale piano recitals organized by her instructor Meldene Gruber and other piano teachers. She has also played morning service at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior at Rehoboth Beach and a Sing for Hope piano at the World Trade Center station in New York.
Anna’s musical interests are focused on baroque and classical music, with her favorite composers being Bach and Mozart. Beyond her musical aspirations, she plans to pursue a career in engineering, math, science or art.
