South Jersey Industries (SJI) recently presented a $39,080 check to the South Jersey Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE-SJC) as part of its annual employee giving campaign. The donation was made during a Lunch & Learn event at SJI’s headquarters in Folsom, N.J., marking the beginning of AABE’s 2025 Scholarship Application Program.
In addition to the 2024 donation, SJI announced a commitment of $49,930 for 2025 to support the organization’s mission. These funds will directly contribute to scholarships for students pursuing higher education in colleges and technical schools, with a focus on those entering STEM-related fields.
“This generous contribution reflects the dedication of our employees who continue to support students in their academic journeys,” said Will Smith, AABE South Jersey Employee Executive Sponsor and SJI’s vice president of the Office of Operational Excellence.
AABE is committed to advocating for African Americans and other minorities in energy policy, as well as providing valuable community service and scholarship opportunities. During the event, AABE also highlighted its community service partnership with Samaritan, Life-Enhancing Care of South Jersey, creating Clay Keepsakes to honor families who have recently lost loved ones.
The AABE-SJC chapter, led by President Lisa Cottman, also celebrated the launch of its 2025 Scholarship Application Program, encouraging students in STEM disciplines to apply by April 16, 2025. Interested students can apply at aabescholarship.awardspring.com
SJI’s ongoing support underscores its commitment to diversity and educational advancement, helping students of all backgrounds achieve their academic and professional aspirations in the energy sector.
