SJM Resorts Ltd, the entity that holds Macau gaming rights on behalf of Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings Ltd, held in late August its “21st SJM Scholarship Award Ceremony”, presenting a total of MOP730,000 (US$90,951) in scholarships to 36 children drawn from workforce families.
This year, the SJM Scholarship recognised 10 “exemplary students”, with each receiving an annual scholarship of MOP20,000 until their university graduation, stated the company in a press release.
The casino firm also renewed scholarships for 26 previous awardees who remain in full-time education.
The announcement cited Daisy Ho Chiu Fung, managing director of SJM Resorts, as saying: “These students will soon transition from the comfort zone of secondary school to a completely new university environment. Whether you can fully adapt and excel depends not only on effort but also on perseverance.”
She added: “In facing future opportunities and challenges, you must comport yourselves with dignity and resilience, upholding a rigorous approach to learning while continuously striving for self-improvement.”
The SJM Scholarship programme was established in 2005 to reward “outstanding children” of employees. To date, the SJM Scholarship has benefitted over 320 students, with total scholarship disbursements exceeding MOP15 million.
A representative of this year’s scholarship recipients, Ng Chi Keng, expressed her gratitude to the casino concessionaire for the recognition. She was quoted as saying: “SJM is dedicated to nurturing local talent for Macau’s long-term development. This scholarship not only provides financial support but also serves as a profound moral encouragement, demonstrating that diligence will invariably be recognised.”
