Smithfield High’s Meghan Falls, left, and Lily Riggin, right, who helped the Smithfield/Coventry/Moses Brown girls’ hockey team return to last winter’s state championship game at Providence College’s Schneider Arena, were two of eight Rhode Island high school senior hockey players who recently received a $1,000 scholarship from the R.I. Hockey Hall of Fame, which presents these awards to seniors based on their “athletic excellence, achievements away from the rink, and deep commitments to helping others.” The Hall of Fame, along with the support of the R.I. Reds Heritage Society, R.I. Hockey, Inc., and hockey fans across the state, help fund the Hall’s scholarship program. Falls, who also received the state’s prestigious Hobey Baker High School Character Award last winter, plans to attend Penn State University this fall, while Riggin is heading to the University of Rhode Island. Presenting Falls and Riggin with their ceremonial checks are Smithfield High athletic director Glenn Castiglia, second from left, and R.I. Hockey Hall of Fame founding chairman Vin Cimini, second from right.
