The South Pasadena Chinese-American Club (SPCC) awarded a $3000 scholarship to three outstanding South Pasadena High School graduating seniors.
The Dr. Karl J. Hwang Memorial Scholarship honors the late Hwang, a biophysical chemist, who was a co-founder and a past president of SPCC. Scholarship recipients must demonstrate leadership, volunteerism, high academic success and school involvement.
Every year, SPCC has a vast number of applicants who are all very deserving. SPCC President Yuki Cutcheon distributed the scholarship to honorees Christine Xu, Emilio Lois and Holly Lacey at the SPHS Awards Night.
Established in 1989, the SPCC is a nonprofit organization that provides valuable services to our local community, schools and libraries. Within the last few years, the SPCC has received two prestigious awards — the South Pasadena Image Award, an annual award given to organizations, businesses or individuals who promote a positive image of the city beyond its borders and the South Pasadena Rotary’s Service Above Self Award.
