DU QUOIN, Ill. (KFVS) – More than 30 students in southern Illinois receive the surprise of a lifetime.
SIU Carbondale Chancellor Austin Lane and staff made surprise visits to 20 schools across southern Illinois to present select students with a full ride to the university.
The Chancellor’s Scholarship covers tuition, mandatory fees, housing and food for four years.
More than 600 high school students competed in the selection process.
Du Quoin High School Senior Jessie Rudloff said she can’t wait to get started in the fall.
“I’m really excited to start SIU and not have to pay anything. I’m excited to live on campus. My dad said he’d buy me a car if I went to SIU, so I’m excited for that too,” said Rudloff.
