Main Street Community Foundation
SOUTHINGTON, CT — A regional community foundation has awarded nearly $17,000 in scholarships to several Southington students.
According to the Bristol-based Main Street Community Foundation, 16 Southington students were awarded a total of $16,800 in scholarships from the foundation to advance education and career goals.
They are:
KAWFY Memorial Scholarship Fund: Christopher Bray, Paige Tierinni, Emma Thornton, Maya Kasica, Ekamnoor Singh.
• Richard A. DellaVecchia Scholarship Fund: Joseph DiPace.
• Dave Mongillo Memorial/Golf Scholarship Fund: Jayden Manuel.
• Dr. Joan T. Wallace Prize for Highest Achievement in English at Southington High School: Kriti Gupta.
• Olivia Fusco Memorial Art Scholarship Fund: Collin Martin.
• Robert E. and Angeline P. McCormack Scholarship Fund: Sophie Shugrue.
• Southington Observer/StepSaver Scholarship Fund: Emma Thornton.
• Thérèse MacCallum ‘Great Kid’ Scholarship Fund: Jayden Manuel, Lauren Carrubba.
• Katherine Dobroczynski Memorial Scholarship Fund: Katherine Inez Cortez Guerra.
• Kristen Warner Scholarship Fund: Vayda Martinez.
• Jeanne Radcliff Fund for Global Studies: Timothy Landrette
In addition to the above, two Southington students were awarded scholarships from the Keating-Monaghan Memorial Scholarship Fund and Lena M. & Peter L. Korotie Scholarship Fund.
These scholarships assist elementary/secondary school students attending or planning to attend St. Joseph School and St. Paul Catholic High School, respectively.
The majority of these scholarship grants were awarded during MSCF’s June 24 Scholarship Reception
at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Bristol, where it was announced that this year’s scholarship awards total $360,000.
The reception, which is held annually to celebrate the recipients and thank the generous donors, was attended by over 175 people.
Southington’s students were among 194 residents who received scholarship awards from the foundation’s scholarship program.
They are in various stages of their academic careers, from elementary school students to college students.
They will be continuing their education with the assistance of these scholarships in the fields of business, health care, criminal justice, journalism, education, engineering, visual arts, skilled trades, and more.
MSCF administers over 100 named scholarship funds that have all been established by local individuals, families, businesses, or other organizations.

The Main Street Community Foundation works with donors in Bristol, Burlington, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington, and Wolcott who “wish to build permanent charitable endowments to support their communities.”
