When a young son or daughter goes off to college, it is hoped that the student will receive financial aid for having a special gift, like in music, art, or in most cases, as a future student-athlete.
Scholarships can be offered by NCAA Division I and II schools. They can be full or partial scholarships, and are awarded year-to-year, requiring athletes to maintain athletic and academic performance levels to retain the stipend or award. Scholarships may also be offered by the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). Usually it is the team’s head coach who is responsible for giving out and renewing these special kinds of merit aid.
