Star Valleyās football program created a scholarship to honor former team manager Kim Choma earlier this week.
Choma, who also served as a manager for the University of Wyomingās football team, died in a lawnmower accident June 26 at her home in Afton.
She was 21 years old.
Star Valley football coach McKay Young started a GoFundMe to raise money for the scholarship. The scholarship is titled āKim Choma Memorial Scholarship.ā

āEach year, we start our season with a lift-a-thon where we seek to raise funds for a cause we believe in. This year, we would like to help raise funds for a scholarship in honor and memory of former SVHS and University of Wyoming football team manager Kim Choma,ā Young wrote on the GoFundMe page. āAs a Star Valley football family, we were heartbroken to lose Kim.
āChoma represented the very best of us and what we aspire to be like. She was uniquely kind and selfless. She was an example of being built for others. She left a legacy that will forever be remembered and honored in our program.
ā⦠Please consider donating to this fund, as 100% of donations will be used for the Choma family to create a scholarship to help Kim Chomaās legacy live on and be remembered.ā
Choma was known for her resilience and relentless passion. She exemplified those traits following a car crash last August. Choma was stranded on the side of the road for more than six hours after her vehicle rolled over.
She later crawled to a nearby house, where she was discovered by a local couple.
āKimberly was an important part of our UW family,ā UW athletics director Tom Burman said in June. āShe was loved by her coworkers, student-athletes and all those who interacted with her. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Choma family.ā
Added UW football coach Jay Sawvel: āKim Choma was loved by everyone associated with Cowboy football. Her attitude, kindness, work ethic, and most of all, her smile will be so dearly missed, and never forgotten. Our prayers go out to all members of the Choma family.ā
The Braves made T-shirts to help raise money for Chomaās medical expenses following the car accident, which was another testament to her impact on those around her.
The T-shirts read: āThe world needs more Choma.ā
