STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A college student from Staten Island received a prestigious scholarship last month.
Manhattan University announced several recipients of the James Patterson ’69 Scholarships to students for the 2024-2025 academic year. It’s the 13th year that the bestselling author and philanthropist supported is undergraduate alma mater with these scholarships.
“It gives me great pleasure to continue this tradition at my undergraduate alma mater,” said Patterson, in a press release. ”The challenges facing higher education today are plentiful, and making these scholarships available to deserving students is so very important to me. I have high expectations that these young women and men soon will become leaders in their chosen fields thanks to the solid academics and the Lasallian mission that prevails at Manhattan University.”
The scholarships were awarded to juniors and seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence, financial need, and involvement in activities aligned with the University’s mission.
Ivanna Duran, a digital media art major from Staten Island, was one of several recipients of this scholarship. She will receive $5,000 each academic year.
If you’re an educator looking for a new job, save the date for Staten Island’s K-12 new teacher job fair on May 29.
The fair will be held at the Michael J. Petrides campus in Sunnyside (715 Ocean Terrace), in the Hall of Science in Building A from 4-7 p.m. It is a job fair for new New York City teachers working in the Department of Education.
