A dozen 2024 area high school graduates have been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Sterling Bank. The scholarships are intended to help students pay for their pursuit of a college education. Three students each from Barron, Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, Luck and Rice Lake high schools were chosen by their school’s faculty or scholarship committees to receive the award.
Since 2008, Sterling Bank has awarded $192,000 in scholarships to more than 190 area students. Scholarships are awarded based on an applicant’s demonstration of leadership, good judgment, work ethic and character. Also considered is participation in scholastic and/or athletic endeavors, volunteer activities, pursuit of academic excellence and the desire to better the community.
Barron High School scholarship winners were Alex Featherly, Hashim Hassan and Brevin Neuman. Featherly, plans to attend UW-Stout and study mechanical engineering. Hassan, is undecided, but intends to study technology. Neuman will pursue a degree in engineering at UW-Stout.
Chetek-Weyerhaeuser High School scholarship recipients were Wren Candler, Ethan Engel and Brennan Lentz. Candler will attend Viterbo University and study nursing. Engel plans to major in data analytics at UW-Stevens Point. Lentz will enroll at UW-La Crosse to major in business management and pursue a certificate in coaching as well.
Scholarship winners from Rice Lake High School were Emily Scheu, James Meyer and Ayla Zuzek. Scheu plans to attend UW-Eau Claire. Meyer will attend Franciscan University of Steubenville. Zuzek is enrolling at Milwaukee School of Engineering.
Hunter Memmer, Kally Svoboda, and Teddy Thompson were selected from Luck High School. Memmer will attend Chippewa Valley Technical College to study automotive maintenance. Svoboda plans to study sonography at Chippewa Valley Technical College. Thompson plans to pursue a degree in accounting from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
