Sarah Stock of Allamakee County was awarded the Iowa Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association 4-H Scholarship through the Iowa 4-H Foundation at a recognition ceremony held Sunday, June 29 in Ames. One hundred and fifteen Iowa 4-H scholarships valued at over $121,850 were awarded as a part of the Foundation’s scholarship recognition ceremony. Over 450 applications were submitted, and scholarships have been awarded to recipients from 58 counties across the state of Iowa with a wide variety of 4-H experiences.
Stock intends to pursue an Agronomy degree at Iowa State University at the conclusion of the summer. An Iowa 4-H Recognition Day Beef Project Award recipient, afterschool Clover Kids program mentor, former President of the Ludlow Future Farmers 4-H Club, and Vice President of the Allamakee County 4-H Council, Stock developed key life skills through 4-H. She is now capable of time management, teamwork, and resilience. She will use her abilities resulting from her time in 4-H to work toward her long-term goal of advancing sustainable agronomic practices. Stock values being a supportive presence to others, creating hands-on opportunities, and inspiring the next generation of 4-H members.

“Iowa 4-H Foundation scholarships acknowledge the hard work and dedication of young people who have used their 4-H skills and experiences to ‘make the best better’ for others,” said Emily Saveraid, Executive Director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation. “We also are thankful for the many scholarship donors who fund these important opportunities for Iowa 4-H’ers.”
There are12 annual scholarships that are provided by the Iowa Horsemen’s Benevolent & Protective Association for current Iowa 4-H’ers who are high school seniors. Applicants may attend any two- or four- year institution in the state of Iowa. Preference is given to applicants studying an agriculture-related major.
The Iowa 4-H Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides the private financial resources to develop and deliver quality 4-H youth programs throughout the state of Iowa. These opportunities help young people enhance their ability to use critical thinking, leadership, communication, and social skills – tools that will give them a competitive edge in their future endeavors.
