For many college students, financial barriers often dictate their paths, limiting opportunities, shifting career goals, and reducing involvement on campus. But for Khalid Davis, Bus ’25, scholarships changed everything, turning aspirations into reality and opening doors he could never have imagined.
A senior at the University of Cincinnati, Davis is pursuing a double major in finance and operations management, with a minor in Spanish. He has been awarded the Lindner Business Scholarship and the Arnold Hanish Scholarship during his college career. These scholarships have alleviated financial stress, allowing him to focus on academics while fully immersing himself in campus life.

The Arnold Hanish scholarship, established in 2013 by Arnold Hanish, retired vice president and chief accounting officer of Eli Lilly and Company, has helped relieve financial strain for Davis and other students in the Carl H. Lindner College of Business. Hanish, Bus ’70, established the scholarship to support accounting students.
“This scholarship has completely transformed my college experience and has been a true blessing,” Davis says. “It has relieved financial burdens, allowing me to concentrate on my studies and extracurricular activities.”
Beyond academics, Davis has taken on leadership roles across campus, making a lasting impact on the UC community. He currently serves as student body vice president, where he advocates for student needs and works to enhance campus life.
“Thanks to my scholarships, I’ve been able to get the full UC college experience,” Davis says. “They provided me with the freedom to explore various academic interests, engage in meaningful extracurricular activities and even pursue co-ops that align with my career goals.”

Along with serving as student body vice president, Davis is also involved in Scholars of Finance, Business Fellows, Delta Sigma Pi and the Lindner Student Association. Additionally, he serves as treasurer of Cupcakes for the Cure of Cancer, a UC organization offering support for those affected by breast cancer. His extensive campus involvement and outstanding academic achievements have also earned him a spot on the Student Alumni Council’s Senior 100 list.
As Davis prepares for graduation in 2025, he is excited about the future and the career opportunities ahead. The scholarships he received have allowed him to explore career opportunities and pursue two co-op experiences with First Financial Bank in Cincinnati, ensuring that he is well-prepared to pursue a career in business.
“My college career was shaped by scholarships, which also provided a foundation for my future endeavors,” Davis says. “Overall, the scholarship has enabled me to make the most of my time at UC, both academically and personally.”
For students like Davis, scholarships provide more than financial support, they shape a pathway to success, enabling students to pursue different academic and extracurricular opportunities. Thanks to the generosity of alumni donors like Hanish, current Bearcats can continue to dream big and achieve their full potential.
