The Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International has proudly awarded its very first Future Educator Scholarship to Laikyn Graham, a recent graduate of Pearl River Central High School. Graham is attending Pearl River Community College (PRCC) this fall, where she will begin her studies toward a degree in education.
The $500 scholarship was established by the DKG Sigma Chapter to support and encourage outstanding young women pursuing careers in teaching. Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, character, and a demonstrated commitment to the field of education.
Graham’s passion for teaching began early, inspired by her aunt, longtime educator Donna Barnes, and nurtured through her participation in the Career and Technical Education Early Childhood Education program at Pearl River Central CTE Center. Her teachers describe her as a dedicated, compassionate, and creative student with natural leadership qualities and a strong sense of purpose.
“Laikyn has consistently shown academic excellence and a genuine love for helping children learn,” said Marsha Moore, PRC Early Childhood Education instructor. “She has the qualities of an exceptional future educator—patient, motivated, and deeply invested in the success of others.”
Graham expressed gratitude for the support that will help her pursue her dream career. “Working with children has shown me that education is more than learning facts—it’s about building confidence and inspiring curiosity,” she shared. “I want to make a difference in the lives of my future students just like my teachers have done for me.”
The DKG Sigma Chapter is committed to promoting excellence in education and supporting women educators through leadership, scholarship, and service. The organization looks forward to continuing this scholarship tradition to invest in the future of teaching in Pearl River County.
