This is part one of four sets of scholarship announcements from the Walker College Foundation.
• Savana Alexander has been awarded the WCF William S. Thornton Scholarship to attend Bevill State Community College in Jasper. Berkley is a graduate of Carbon Hill High School. She was a member of BETA Club, Key Club, Peer Helpers, Spanish Club, DECA, FBLA, and FCCLA. She was inducted into the National Honor Society and was a member of the Varsity Volleyball Team. Savana was featured on the A and A/B Honor Rolls and earned a position on the ALL Area Volleyball team. She was selected as Student of the Quarter. She earned a Bevill State Summer Honors Scholarship. Savana’s community service includes working with the CHHS clean-up project, CHHS Festival of Lights, Fish & Loaves, Thanksgiving food drive, American Heart Society, and a Valentine’s dance for special needs students. Savana plans to pursue a degree in Business and transfer to the University of Alabama after she earns an associate degree.
• Charlie Arias has been awarded the WCF Education Scholarship to attend Bevill State Community College in Jasper. Charlie is a graduate of Curry High School. She was a member of BETA Club, FBLA, HOSA, Talent Search, Upward Bound, and Peer Helpers. She was inducted into the National Honor Society, was a WCCT Ambassador, a Chamber of Commerce of Walker County Junior Ambassador, a member of the Superintendent’s Council, and the Youth Leadership Development Program. She was featured on the A/B Honor Roll. Charlie’s community service included working on service projects with her school organizations, raising money through YLDP for Walk for Warriors, and volunteering at the Walker County Humane Society. Charlie plans to major in English/Language Arts and transfer to a four-year college after she earns an associate degree.
• Molly Kate Burns has been awarded the WCF Murphy/Walker Family Scholarship to attend Bevill State Community College in Jasper. Molly Kate is a graduate of Jasper High School. She was a member of Beta Club, the Yearbook Club, and participated on the Cheerleading, Track, and Volleyball Teams. She was selected Miss Jasper High School and was featured in the Walker Leader. She was chosen as a Tailgate Student Athlete and Jasper Student Athlete of the Week. Molly Kate enjoys volunteering with Little League softball games and provides cheerleading lessons. She plans to pursue an associate degree in Nursing.
• Brinlee Clark has been awarded the WCF E. A. “Larry” Drummond Scholarship to attend Bevill State Community College in Jasper. Brinlee is a graduate of Jasper High School. She was a member of Beta Club and participated on the softball and volleyball teams. She was inducted into the National Honor Society. Brinlee enjoys providing softball lessons to young athletes and works at the Nazarene Early Learning Center. She plans to earn an associate degree in Nursing.
• Carson Davis has been awarded the WCF Bob Reed Mining Scholarship to attend Bevill State Community College in Jasper. Carson is a graduate of Dora High School. He was a member of FCCLA, First Priority, Peer Helpers, and Bulldog Buddies. He participated on the football, baseball, golf, and wrestling teams. Carson was chosen as Student Athlete of the Week, Alfa Insurance Player of the Week, and All Region Football. He earned a place on the A/B Honor Roll. He provides volunteer time to the Argo First Baptist Food Bank, Mission of Hope, and Faith Baptist Church. He volunteers as an announcer for DHS baseball and softball games and works the morning car line for Sumiton Elementary School. Carson plans to pursue a degree in Secondary Education/Special Education and transfer to the University of West Alabama after earning an associate degree.
• Haley Files has been awarded the WCF E. A. “Larry” Drummond Scholarship to attend Bevill State Community College in Jasper. Haley is a graduate of Jasper High School. She participated in Beta Club, Peer Helpers, Spanish Club, and Mu Alpha Theta. She was inducted into National Honor Society and served as the high school yearbook editor. She also participated on the soccer team. Haley volunteers monthly for the New Prospect Baptist Church food closet and is a lifeguard at Memorial Park Natatorium. She plans to pursue a degree in General Studies with a focus on Biology and transfer to the University of Alabama after she earns an associate degree.
