SAN ANTONIO — Forty-eight students took the stage at the Majestic Theater for the 17th annual Joci Awards, marking a significant achievement for both the performers and event organizers.
Kristen Brooks Sandler, the 2025 Joci Awards Director, highlighted the extensive preparation involved. The event featured students from across South Texas, including San Antonio, with more than half hailing from McAllen.
"Well me and Jacelyn the head of the Majestic Theater Foundation and Weston the technical director have been working in production meetings since 2024," said Sandler. "But this week we got the kiddos on Tuesday, we all flew in Sunday, Monday and been working hard since Tuesday and they put a 2-hour show in just a couple of days."
Organizers expressed their excitement at seeing the show come together after months of planning.
Christina Belinsky, event choreographer, noted the dedication of the students. "It's been coming along great, we make sure everyone details, we send videos to make sure that everyone can practice at home and they come ready, they're all excited, I feel like the pressure of the performance allows them bring their best selves forward," said Belinsky.
Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Joci Awards, the largest scholarship program for the arts in the United States, which has awarded more than $1.7 million to date.
