Applications are open for a summer band camp scholarship administered by Peninsula Symphonic Band and the Swingin’ Door Big Band.
Ten scholarships of up to $250 will be available for middle and high school wind and jazz band students. Homeschooled students who are actively involved in a wind or jazz band at a local school may also apply.
Each student has to complete an application, write a 250-word essay on what they hope to learn at band camp, and submit a recommendation from their school instrumental music director.
Application materials are available from local middle and high school band directors or by contacting [email protected]. Applications are due by April 18.
The scholarship program is funded through proceeds collected at Swingin’ Door Big Band and Peninsula Symphonic Band performances.
This is the fourth year that the two bands have offered these scholarships. The first year, two students were awarded scholarships, followed by six the following year and 10 in 2024.
“Students who attend a summer band camp help to make their school music program that much stronger,” Peninsula Symphonic Band Music Director Jason Palmer said.
