The Winter of Love 2024 programme brought gifts and scholarships to students of Ban Hat Primary and Secondary School in Tram Tau district of Yen Bai province.
On the first morning, a letter from Tuan Kiet, a student at Nghia Do School in Hanoi, was read aloud. He described his efforts to donate new school supplies and asked his parents for money in which to do so. The message at the end of the letter, “keep up your study”, was a sincere and simple way to touch the hearts of not only the teachers but also all members of the programme’s delegation.
Kiet’s gifts were part of a campaign calling for donations of books and clothes from children after Typhoon Yagi caused huge amounts of damage to property in the northern region last September. After two weeks, the campaign received nearly 300 sets of clothes, 25 pairs of boots, and hundreds of books and school supplies. These were carefully packaged and delivered to children in highland and mountainous areas.
Additionally, the Winter of Love scheme also received support from the scholarship fund of the Swing for the Kids charity golf tournament to deliver 30 scholarships worth $600 for students in difficult status.
Son Ha Corporation also sponsored five water purifiers. A company representative said, “Son Ha pays attention to social security activities with high responsibility to contribute to the development of the community.”
The Winter of Love is the result of cooperation between the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Unions of the Ministry of Planning and Investment Office, Vietnam Investment Review , Yen Bai Department of Planning and Investment, and Tram Tau district, with the value of the gifts reaching approximately $4,000.
Nguyen Thi Thanh Hien, principal of Ban Hat School, shared that the gifts and scholarships were a great motivation, not only providing material support but also instilling spirit to the teachers and students here. “We hope to have more learning support devices such as smart TVs for children here to access knowledge, along with water purifiers to significantly improve living conditions at school,” she said.
Previously, in mid-2024, VIR‘s Youth Union coordinated with the Youth Union of the Academy of Policy and Development to implement the Green Summer initiative in Ha Giang province. Practical gifts were handed over to Lao Va Chai Kindergarten in Yen Minh district with a total value of nearly $2,000, most of them contributed by main sponsor Vietnam Beverage. The company is a long-term sponsor of the Swing for the Kids golf event.
The Swing for the Kids fund has offered more than 21,000 scholarships for poor students and supported the upgrading of learning facilities in more than 40 localities.
