Rylan Bryant of Sutherlin High School was awarded Roseburg Elks Lodge #326's first $500 Vocational Scholarship after a weekly Friday night dinner on May 16, 2025, at the Elks Lodge.
Bryant, along with his parents, Ronald Bryant and Jessica Saucier, and his siblings, were treated to a tri-tip dinner by the Lodge’s Past Exalted Ruler Association.
Bryant was presented a certificate of award and the scholarship grant will be sent to the school of his choosing once he is enrolled.
He was also presented with a $2,000 Vocational Scholarship from the Oregon State Elks Association’s (OSEA) Vocational Scholarship program on May 21 during Sutherlin High School’s Awards Night presentations.
"Bryant has an accumulated GPA of 3.75 and plans to attend Umpqua Community College in the fall where he will pursue a certification as a Firefighter/EMT 1," the Elks Lodge said. "His interest in this career field was stimulated after he shadowed staff during several ambulances and fire calls. According to Rylan he has always wanted to be a Firefighter/EMT. He wants to give back to the community by saving lives while working as an EMT trainee and saving property from fire."
The second annual Roseburg Elks Vocational Scholarship Golf Tournament fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, June 21 at Oak Hills Golf Club in Sutherlin. If you want to be a sponsor and/or play, you can find information on the Lodge’s Facebook page, by emailing Chairperson Walter Kauhn at wkauhn@gmail.com, or by calling the Lodge office at (541) 672-4455.
