Southern Utah University has announced the recipients of its esteemed 2024 Board of Trustees Scholarship, a mark of distinction awarded to exceptional students. The recipients are Walter Maxwell Gibson College of Sciences nominee, Kaden Jensen, and College of Health Sciences nominee, Joseph Caleb Clinger.
Both Jensen and Clinger, set to graduate in April 2025, have showcased remarkable academic prowess and commitment to their respective fields. Jensen, hailing from St. George, UT, will emerge with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in biology and chemistry, while Clinger, originally from Blanding, Utah, will attain a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition alongside a minor in Chemistry.
The Board of Trustees Scholarship is one of SUU's most prestigious honors, bestowed upon only the most outstanding junior students. Nominated by faculty and deans, these scholars exemplify academic excellence, distinguished service, and active engagement within the campus community.
Jensen, with aspirations to pursue CRISPR research and patient care through an MD/PhD program, attributes his success to SUU's intimate educational environment, where professors are not just mentors but close allies. He acknowledges the pivotal role played by Professors Howard and Prater in shaping his academic journey.
Meanwhile, Clinger envisions a career in Osteopathic Medicine and expresses gratitude to mentors such as Matthew Schmidt, Celesta Lyman, Sarah Brock, Dr. Kim Weaver, and Dr. Nathan Werner for their guidance and inspiration throughout his time at SUU.
Established as an integral part of the Utah System of Higher Education, the Board of Trustees holds the authority to recognize and support exemplary students like Jensen and Clinger. Their achievements reflect not only their individual dedication but also SUU's commitment to fostering academic excellence and professional success.
