Empowering Global Leaders for Sustainable Development
The Swedish Institute (SI) invites applications for the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals 2026, a prestigious, fully funded master’s scholarship program designed to nurture future leaders who are dedicated to advancing sustainable development and driving positive change in their home countries.
Through this initiative, Sweden invests in global talent, fostering long-term partnerships that promote innovation, equality, and resilience worldwide.
The SI Scholarship for Global Professionals provides highly motivated individuals from 33 eligible countries with the opportunity to pursue one- or two-year master’s studies in Sweden, delivered in English at top-ranked universities. Scholars are equipped with advanced academic knowledge, practical leadership skills, and a strong professional network to enable them to contribute meaningfully to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Beyond academic excellence, the program builds a community of changemakers who can bridge local and global challenges, applying Swedish values of inclusivity, democracy, and sustainability to create lasting impact in their regions.
Applicants may choose from a wide range of fields that reflect Sweden’s strengths in innovation and global problem-solving, including:
All eligible master’s programs are English-taught and designed to cultivate analytical thinking, leadership, and sustainable solutions to real-world issues. The list of eligible programs for the 2026/2027 academic year will be published in mid-November 2025.
The SI Scholarship for Global Professionals offers a comprehensive support package that enables scholars to fully engage in their studies and professional development:
The scholarship does not include family support, insurance, or application fee reimbursement, nor does it allow program changes or extensions beyond the original award period.
To qualify, applicants must:

Exceptions apply for certain Ukrainian and Moldovan applicants under specific residency or dual-citizenship conditions.
Leadership potential is a defining feature of successful applicants. Candidates must show evidence of responsibility, influence, and initiative — whether through managerial roles, civil society engagement, or policy advocacy. The program seeks individuals who have demonstrated the ability to inspire others, drive organizational change, and contribute to strategic development in their communities or workplaces.
Work experience need not be continuous and can span multiple employers. However, applicants must provide official documentation using SI’s required forms, which will be available during the application period.
The application process for the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals 2026 follows five key stages:
Applicants are advised to begin preparing their materials early, including leadership and employment documentation, motivational statements, and proof of English proficiency as required by their chosen universities.
All SI scholars automatically join the SI Network for Future Global Professionals (NFGP) — an exclusive platform for collaboration, mentorship, and leadership development. The network connects current and former scholars, promoting interdisciplinary learning and lifelong professional engagement with Sweden.
Upon completion of their studies, graduates join the Sweden Alumni Network, continuing their mission as ambassadors of sustainable development and Swedish cooperation worldwide.
