MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Six students in the Northeast Louisiana region have been presented with a combined total of $30,000 in scholarship money from The Tarver Braddock Foundation over the last 1.5 weeks.
High school students Alyssa Hall, Martez Roberson, Jaylyn Smith, Jaxson Barron, Charles “Charlie” Smith, and Marteciha Logwood received $5,000 each in scholarships to Louisiana Delta Community College.
Tarver Braddock, the foundation’s namesake, was a Neville High School student who tragically died in a hunting camp accident in January 2024. Tarver’s parents, Lindsey and Brett, established The Tarver Braddock Foundation to carry on their son’s bright personality.
The foundation’s website says its mission is “To spread love, laughter, and happiness through random acts of kindness.”
“Tarver’s smile, laugh, and personality will live on in our hearts and minds forever,” reads The Tarver Braddock Foundation’s website. “He would want us all to be more like him: smile a lot and spread sunshine wherever you go.”
Will Campbell, Tarver’s cousin, is a former Neville athlete and currently plays for LSU football. Campbell spread sunshine just like Tarver would have wanted by hosting the Tarver Braddock Memorial Skills Camp at Bill Ruple Stadium on Saturday, April 27.
“Tarver brought light in our lives,” Campbell said. “When we were talking about it as a family, my uncle and aunt … that was the goal. To bring joy to people, just help people. And it will continue that way.”
Tarver’s parents said it is because of the generous community that the foundation can do what it does.
“We can only carry out these projects through the kind and generous donations to the foundation,” said Tarver’s parents, Lindsey and Brett. “We are grateful to everyone for supporting us and our mission during this tragedy.”
