CHARLOTTE, NC — The ‘Taylor Made’ awards aims to uplift high school student athletes by providing them with a tailored suit and a $250 check to assist them in their journey.
“I think it’s a really important foundation because it’s more than just a suit. It’s a symbol. So as you move forward in college or your next phase of life, you can kind of wear that suit proudly and be like, man, people believed in me. I did something special here,” Rocky River High School senior Alexandria Jefferson said.
Taylor made supports student athletes across Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools.
For many, sports has been a part of their lives from an early age.
“I started playing basketball when I was four, and I just kind of stuck with it. I also played a lot of other sports when I was younger. I ran track, played flag football, and also did volleyball,” West Charlotte senior Shakira Generette said.
The awards also create more representation for young women in sports.
“I think it’s very rewarding because a lot of students don’t get that opportunity to achieve that. So I just think it’s amazing especially for women because we don’t really get that much recognition,” Harding University senior Stephanie Nunez – Ordonez said.
For many the suit is the start of a college career tailored to success.
“You can walk with pride and confidence and you can kind of hold your chest up high when you walk in the next room because you look good, you feel good, you can perform good. So I think it’s an amazing opportunity,” Jefferson said.
