SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Southfield Public Schools announced that Marry Kassa, a graduating senior, has been awarded an extraordinary $4.7 million in college scholarships and has committed to attend Yale University on a full-ride scholarship.
Kassa, a first-generation college student and daughter of immigrants, is an inspiring example of academic excellence, resilience, and determination.

The tech-driven trailblazer plans to major in computer science and pursue a career as a machine learning engineer.
In addition to earning prestigious merit- and need-based scholarships from top-tier universities, Kassa is also a recipient of the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, which includes a $40,000 award and a guaranteed paid internship at Amazon after her freshman year.
She was accepted to five Ivy League institutions, including Yale, Princeton, Brown, Columbia, and Cornell, as well as several other highly competitive universities.
Kassa began applying for scholarships during her sophomore year and intensified her efforts by the end of her junior year.
Her success is a testament to the power of self-advocacy, persistence, and the importance of equitable access to educational opportunities.
