The Tehama County Cattlemen Scholarship Committee has announced its 2024 Ron Knight Memorial Scholarship recipients. Seven $2,000 scholarships were awarded to students pursuing an Ag-related course of study in memory of Ronald S. Knight, a dedicated agricultural leader in the community and long-time UC Livestock Advisor at the Tehama County Cooperative Extension office.
Following are the seven winners:
Austin Flood; The son of Russell and Christine Flood of Cottonwood, a 2022 West Valley High School graduate. Flood is in their third year at Oklahoma State University, where he is pursuing an Animal Science degree and plans to attain a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. He plans on owning and operating his own DVM practice.
Hannah Endres: A 2021 Corning High School graduate attending Chico State University, pursuing her degree in Ag Education to become an Ag Teacher. Endres grew up being involved with her family’s ranch, raising beef cattle, and her passion for cattle and the ag industry developed. As an ag teacher, she hopes to inspire others and make a difference in students’ lives, communities, and school culture. Hannah is the daughter of Jack & Kathleen Endres of Paskenta.
Catlyn Mackey: a 2023 Red Bluff High School graduate. Mackey attends Lassen Community College to obtain an agricultural business degree and compete with the Lassen College rodeo team. While working for a local ranch for many years, she realized she had a strong passion for ranching and cattle operations. She desired to own a commercial show calf business and a horse breeding and training operation. She plans to continue with her rodeo career and qualify for the NFR. Catlyn’s parents are Doug and Kathy Mackey of Red Bluff.
Hayley Byrd; a 2024 Corning High School graduate. Byrd plans to pursue a degree in Agriculture Communications. She would like to educate the public about where their food comes from, while promoting agriculture by communicating the many benefits of Ag in the Tehama County economy. She is an extremely accomplished Sheep Showman. She has been elected president of her chapters of both 4-H and FFA, and she has received Greenhand, Chapter, and State FFA degrees. Hayley has gained experience while working at Byrd Cattle Company as an SAE and supervised agricultural experience. She was chosen as one of three state finalists in the Superior Region, finishing second in California. Byrd is the daughter of Ty Byrd and Regina Byrd of Tehama County.
Jordan Brandt; a 2024 Red Bluff High School graduate. Brandt will attend the University of Florida in Fall 2024, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Business. She plans to focus on developing and applying agriculture technology to small farms. Her family owns and operates a local farm stand, of which she is presently the Marketing Manager. Additionally, Jordan excels in academics and is currently the National Honors Society Vice President, as well as, a 2nd year intern for NASA Astrobiology. Jordan’s parents are Kathy and James Brandt of Los Molinos.
Ryan Raglin: a 2024 Whittenberg Country School graduate, is concurrently attending Shasta College to get a jump start on his goals of owning and operating his own Butcher shop. He plans to complete general education at Shasta College and transfer to Chico State to obtain a degree in Meat Science. While attending Whittenberg Country School, he was a volunteer teacher’s assistant for summer day camps. He has volunteered for Tehama County Farm Bureau with Dairyville Orchard Festival, and Church youth groups. His parents are James and Lori Raglin of Red Bluff.
Kayley Hausman:, a 2023 Red Bluff High School graduate with honors, is attending Cal Poly SLO to pursue a major in Animal Science and a minor in Ag Business and Equine Therapy. Hausman is currently on the honor roll at Cal Poly. During high school, she received both an FFA Green Hand degree and an FFA Chapter degree. She is on the Cal Poly Rodeo Team. Her parents are Kristin Loewen and Joshua Hausman of Tehama County.
Alize Miranda; a 2024 Red Bluff High School graduate. Miranda plans to attend Shasta College for two years before transferring to UC Davis to obtain a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and open her own practice. She has served in student government all four years of high school, completing her senior year as the ASB President for Red Bluff High School. Miranda has excelled in academics throughout high school, maintaining various volunteer roles in the community and being heavily involved with athletics and extracurricular activities. Miranda is the daughter of Kayla and Justin Miranda of Red Bluff.
Reba Bartolomei; a 2024 Red Bluff High School graduate with a cumulative GPA of 4.21. Reba plans to attend Florida Southern University, pursuing her Biology and Veterinary Medicine degree. Her goal would be to become a livestock Veterinarian. Florida Southern offers multiple internships to acquire hands-on experience at veterinary clinics, ranches and farms. Bartolomei is the daughter of CJ Charles and Cori Lynn Bartolomei of Tehama County.
