The TEK Center in Inez presented $80,000 in fully paid scholarships to eight graduating seniors at Prestonsburg High School. Each recipient received a $10,000 scholarship that will cover all expenses while studying at the center.

The TEK Center in Inez presented $80,000 in fully paid scholarships to eight graduating seniors at Prestonsburg High School. Each recipient received a $10,000 scholarship that will cover all expenses while studying at the center.
Eight Prestonsburg High School graduating seniors were recently awarded a total of $80,000 in scholarships from the TEK Center in Inez.
Each of the recipients  received $10,000 fully paid scholarships that will cover everything from books, fees, tools, personal protective equipment and tuition.
PHS scholarship recipients and their chosen field of study are Nicholas Adams, electrical; Nathan Blackburn, electrical; Kain Branham, plumbing; Joshua Elkins, electrical; Collin Fannin, plumbing; Christopher Blake Howell, electrical; Jeremy Ratliff, heavy equipment operation; and Landon Yates, electrical.
A Floyd Central High School senior, Jacob Caudill, was also awarded a $10,000 plumbing scholarship.
The TEK Center provides industry-developed training in skilled trades “designed to address the growing workforce needs” of Eastern Kentucky, according to its website.
“Our fast-tracked, skill-focused courses lead to nationally accredited, industry-recognized certification in less than a year,” the website says.
Courses include heavy equipment operation, electrical, industrial mechanic, plumbing, masonry and welding.
The TEK Center also offers 70 percent paid scholarships, meaning recipients would be responsible for paying $3,000 toward their education.
The center holds an Employer Fair prior to graduation to connect students to local businesses that have a need for skilled trade workers.
