Temple High School seniors may head to college or trade school with extra money in their pocket.
On Monday, the Temple Education Foundation will open its application portal for scholarships.
“Every year me and the committee wait anxiously for our scholarship portal to open so we can get ready to have the opportunity to impact our high school seniors preparing for higher education,” Alesia Dawson, Temple Education Foundation scholarship chair, said. “These students may not realize during the process how this will help their experience, but we see in the former recipients how it has shaped their journey in many ways.”
She emphasized how these scholarships prove to students that they have local support.
“Our hope is that they will remember that and someday be able to support or inspire the next generation of future leaders,” Dawson said.
Last year, the Temple Education Foundation awarded more than $180,000 in merit and need-based scholarships.
“The scholarship program is significant to the Temple Education Foundation and our mission. We fundraise so we can give to the students and teachers of Temple ISD,” Kathy Denton, Temple Education Foundation executive director, said. “Awarding scholarships brightens our world because of the impact it can have on the students’ lives.”
The deadline for scholarship applications — accessible online at www.templeeducationfoundation.org — will be March 17. Temple ISD Superintendent Bobby Ott encouraged all seniors who plan to attend college or trade school to make a submission.
“The Temple Education Foundation is an extraordinary partner in supporting our students and staff,” he told the Telegram. “I visited with several of our seniors about the importance of advocating for yourself in competitive environments such as college, employment and other opportunities. I’m hopeful that we have a flood of good students applying to gather as many resources as possible to further their education.”
Donations to any Temple Education Foundation scholarship may be made online or by phone at 254-215-6125.
“We are thankful for the generosity of our donors, so this goal can be achieved and we encourage the graduating seniors to apply,” Denton said.
