BAY CITY — Tenaris marked the 12th anniversary of its Roberto Rocca Scholarship Program in Texas by awarding $196,000 in scholarships to 15 high school seniors from Matagorda County during a ceremony held at its Bay City facility.
The awards included a $60,000 Student of the Year scholarship, six $20,000 Merit Awards, and eight additional scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.
Meredith Williams of Bay City High School was named Student of the Year. She plans to attend the University of Alabama to study Business, with a minor in International Business and Spanish.
“I am ecstatic. I’m so proud of myself and all my peers,” said Williams. “I believe that Tenaris is in this community for a reason and it’s to give back to the community, and that’s exactly what they did tonight. I’m so very thankful.”
Merit Award recipients, honored for academic achievement and their pursuit of careers in STEM-related fields, included Kaylee Spencer and Victoria Sliva from Bay City High School; Bethany Grones and Veronika Castanon from Palacios Junior Senior High School; and Nicole Ryman and Scarlett Kile from Van Vleck High School.
“As you go on to college and begin your careers, I encourage you to be curious, to take risks and uphold your integrity,” said Guillermo Moreno, Tenaris U.S. President. “These are some of the attributes that we look for and instill in our employees at TenarisBayCity and around the world.”
U.S. Congressman Troy E. Nehls also attended the event.
“Today, Tenaris made significant investments in bright students’ education and futures, presenting nearly $200,000 in scholarships for college,” Nehls said. “Over the past eleven years, Tenaris has given over $2 million in scholarships to high school students who are pursuing higher education. I thank Tenaris for their continuous dedication to the enrichment of young adults in our district, and I can’t wait to see what these students do in the years to come.”
Since breaking ground on its seamless pipe mill in Bay City in 2013, Tenaris has made education a central focus of its community outreach.
The company has invested $3.8 million in education-based programs across Matagorda County, including 174 scholarships awarded through the Roberto Rocca Scholarship Program. These scholarships are named in honor of Roberto Rocca, the late Italian-Argentinian industrialist and former chairman of Techint, the industrial group that founded Tenaris.
Beyond scholarships, Tenaris supports local schools and educational institutions through equipment donations, science and technology programs, internships, and teacher training initiatives.
The company has partnered with several area school districts and colleges to promote career readiness and STEM education. Their investments also extend to workforce development, including collaborations with Wharton County Junior College and the TenarisBayCity Training Center.
The company serves many of the world’s largest oil and gas operators and reported revenues of $12.5 billion in 2024. With a workforce of approximately 26,000 employees, Tenaris operates an integrated network of manufacturing, research, finishing, and service centers across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The Bay City mill is the company’s first seamless pipe facility built in the United States and remains a key part of its North American operations.
