The American Kennel Club (AKC®), a not-for-profit organization, the world’s largest purebred dog registry and leading advocate for dogs, is pleased to announce the recipients of the Junior Scholarships awarded to those who compete in Performance Events.
“The 2025 AKC Performance Events Junior Scholarship winners have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence—both in their academic pursuits and in the performance events they’re so passionate about,” said Doug Ljungren, EVP of Sports and Events at AKC. “We are proud to recognize their achievements and are excited to see how they continue to shine in the sport and beyond.”
Scholarships totaling $10,000 were awarded to the following:
Xochitl Berns from Portland, OR. A member of the Chintamani Kennel Club, Willamette Saluki Club and Afghan Hound Club of Greater Portland, Xochitl competes in Coursing, CAT and Fast CAT and has been Hunt Master and field clerk at multiple events. Xochitl is attending Portland State University with a major in Biology.
Michelle C. Harman from Walnut Cove, NC, competes with her Labrador Retrievers in Hunt Tests having qualified for the Amateur and Master Nationals. Michelle was active in FFA, and 4-H. Michelle is currently attending North Carolina State University studying Agriculture Science.
Cadence E. Manno from Ashland City, TN, volunteers at multiple club events. Cadence has participated with German Shorthaired Pointers and Pointers in Hunt Tests and Field Trials as well as Conformation, Agility and Tracking. Cadence will be attending Trevecca Nazarene University studying Human Performance and Fitness and running on the track team.
Ryan M. Markey from Kensington, CT, is a member of the CT Valley Vizsla Club and the Vizsla Club of America. Ryan competes with his Vizslas in Hunt Tests and Conformation. Ryan is currently a student at the University of Connecticut, Storrs studying Electrical Engineering.
O’Malley McGee from Auburn, AL competes in Pointing Breed Hunt Tests with Pointers, Vizslas and Brittanys as well as Fast CAT. O’Malley is member of the American Pointer Club, Vizsla Club of America, Vizsla Club of the Carolinas, and the Armenia Winds Pointing Breeds Club. O’Malley attends Auburn University and is studying Wildlife Ecology and Management.
Kaitlynn Myers from Leslie, MO competes in Retriever Hunt Tests, Fast CAT, and CAT with her Golden Retrievers. Kaitlynn is a member of the Dardenne Retriever Club and the Golden Retriever Club of America. Kaitlyn has been a Field Trial and Hunt Test Marshall. She attends the University of Missouri studying Animal Science.
Allyson G. Palmer from Franklin, MA, competes in Scent Work and Fast CAT with her Australian Shepherd. She has been active in FFA, and 4-H. Allyson has been accepted to multiple colleges and plans to study Nursing.
