HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The Highlands School, a kindergarten through 8th grade independent school that focuses on educating students with learning differences and achievement gaps, recently hosted its 22nd annual Big Event on Oct. 13 with a 5K race and Oct. 14 at Maryland Golf and Country Club.
This year’s event was attended by hundreds and raised more than $300,000 – a record-breaking amount, organizers said.
“We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve received during this year’s Big Event. We can now send more deserving students in our community to The Highlands School so they can get the education they need,” said Head of School Claudia Nachtigal. “One hundred percent of funds raised go to scholarships, which means 100% stays local!”
The event featured numerous tournaments and activities such as a golf tournament, pickleball tournament, tennis tournament, the 5K race and fun walk, as well as a dinner and auction. This year’s 5K race was sold out with 250 participants.
The school also has an online donation option for those who couldn’t attend the fundraiser, which can be found at https://highlandsschool.net/giving-online.
