BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Hispanic Forum of BCS was raising money for a good cause Saturday night by holding its 26th annual Scholarship Gala.
This year’s event was sold out and there were about 800 people in attendance. It was a night to celebrate the achievements of many students and the community that supports them.
The theme was attributed to Selena Quintanilla — one of the most celebrated Mexican-American singers in the 20th century — who was killed in 1995.
“Selena Quintanilla was obviously taken from us far too soon, she was a rising star for the Mexican American community and for a lot of us, especially I can speak for my own, she was a face for us here in the United States she was crossing boundaries for all of us where Spanish music and English music were all one no matter what language we’re speaking,” said Sara Salzer, president of the Hispanic Forum BCS.
The event raised more than 180 thousand dollars Saturday night. Rusty Surrette and Karla Castillo were the emcees for the evening.
