By Leave a Comment The Nevada Treasury has extended the application submission deadline for the 2025 Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarship to Monday, May 5, 2025. The program awards $5,000 scholarships each year to two college students in Northern Nevada and two in Southern Nevada, who are majoring in elementary or secondary education with the intent of teaching in Nevada upon graduation.
The Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarship was created in 2011 and has provided scholarships each year to exemplary Nevada college students working to advance public education in the State. All those aspiring to be future Nevada educators are encouraged to apply.
“Education is the gateway to a brighter future, and the Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarship offers a vital opportunity for students to invest in their future career as an educator,” said Dr. Tya Mathis-Coleman, Deputy Treasurer, College Savings, Nevada Treasury. “We encourage all eligible students to apply as this scholarship can help open doors to the resources and support they need to achieve their goals and make a lasting impact on our state.”
To be eligible to receive the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Must have satisfied the eligibility requirements of the Millennium Scholarship.
Must be entering his or her senior year of study at either the University of Nevada, Reno, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Great Basin College, Nevada State University, a non-profit university that awards a bachelor’s degree to Nevada residents (i.e. Western Governor University, Touro University Nevada, etc.), or any other college or university in Nevada that awards a bachelor’s degree in education.
Have a declared major leading to licensure in elementary or secondary education.
Maintain a college grade point average of not less than 3.5 on a 4.0 grading scale, or a commensurate level of academic achievement provided to and verified by the College Savings Board for students enrolled at an educational institution that does not calculate the grade point average.
Must have a written commitment to teaching in Nevada following graduation.
Have a demonstrated record of community service.
To be considered for the scholarship award, students must apply through the Nevada Treasury scholarship application at bit.ly/NVigateMemorial. The 2025 Memorial Scholarship Application is currently open, and the deadline has been extended until May 5, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. (PST).
