Members of The Waters Alumni Chapter of Troy University gathered in April to award the chapter’s scholarship to a Pike Road senior.
The event, hosted at the home of Jeannine and Robert Birmingham, marked the chapter’s second scholarship presentation.
Mary Hayden Hargrove, daughter of TROY alumni Jeb (’15) and Amanda (’00, ’13) Hargrove, was awarded a $750 scholarship by the chapter. Special guest Sohail Agboatwala, Senior Vice Chancellor for Student Services and Administration, agreed to match the chapter’s scholarship.
“It is an honor to receive this scholarship from The Waters Alumni Chapter,” Mary Hayden said. “I am very excited to get started at TROY and find ways be of service int the community and the University.”
Hargrove plans to major in Exercise Science at TROY and wants to pursue a career in the field of physical therapy. She is a member of the Pike Road softball team and serves on the leadership team for the school’s chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also student athletic trainer that works alongside of the athletic trainers that serve school’s sports teams.
TROY Alumni Association President Jack Weaver and his wife, Marthe, were special guests at the event.
“I started in January as President of the Alumni Association, and on behalf of 175,000-plus alumni of Troy University, I want to thank you for your hard work,” Weaver said. “It is all about scholarships. Providing opportunities for young people to get an education is where our heart is on the Alumni Board of Directors. We want to see more young people come to TROY and graduate. What we need to do is get the young people on campus. If they get there, TROY sells itself.”
Officers of The Waters Alumni Chapter, which was chartered in 2024, are: Jeannine Birmingham, President; Jeff Dickey, Vice President; Brantley Leverette, Treasurer; Angie Bradsher, Scholarship Chair; and, Laura Chambliss, Communications.
