ALPENA — MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena Volunteer Services Department is offering two $1,500 scholarships for area students. Scholarships are available to students pursing an education in a human medicine related field with their primary residency in Alcona, Alpena, Iosco, Montmorency, Oscoda and Presque Isle counties. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, April 1.
The Thelma Orr Memorial scholarship is named in honor of Thelma Orr, R.N., director of nursing, and later was a founding Auxiliary member as part of Volunteer Services Department at the Medical Center in Alpena. A committee of volunteers reviews and selects the scholarship recipients. The scholarship may be used to attend any accredited Michigan college and applicants must be in their second year or more working toward their degree.
