A look at some of the most oddly specific scholarships available to graduating seniors looking to reduce the price tag of their degree. 
Are you in college or planning to attend next fall? If you’re looking for scholarships, here are a couple of the strangest ones out there. If you meet the criteria, they could help you cut down the cost of your education.
If so, the scholarship offered by the Vegetarian Resource Group might be worth applying for. The organization sponsors seven scholarships each year: one worth $10,000 and six worth $5,000. These grants are awarded to “graduating U.S. high school students who have promoted veganism in their schools and/or communities.”
The deadline to apply is February 20, 2026, and only applications from seniors graduating in 2025 will be considered.
If you are a competitive bowler and a USBC Youth member, you are eligible to apply for the more than $6 million in scholarships made available to students each year. 
There are a total of seven scholarships, with the most valuable being the USBC Earl Anthony Memorial Scholarship, which is worth $5,000. Five of these scholarships are awarded each year, and “candidates must be enrolled in their senior year of high school or presently attending college and must be current USBC members in good standing.” This scholarship is awarded to a high school senior or college student “with a record of strong community involvement and academic achievements as well as financial need.“ In addition to being a USBC member, one must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

If you live in Illinois and you or your parent is a member of the Multiples of Illinois organization, you may be eligible for a $150 or $200 scholarship selected at random. Find more information on the group’s website. Applications are due on September 1. 
The final scholarship on this list is offered by Alert Magazine, a publication dedicated to reducing alcohol and drug use among teenagers and young adults. Each year, Alert awards a $500 scholarship to a high school student who writes the best essay about their personal experiences with alcohol or drug abuse. However, only students graduating from high school in the following states will be considered: Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington or Wyoming. The applicants must also have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
