Third annual John Brown Sr. Memorial Scholarship band concert set for Oct. 25 – KNOE

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – John Brown Jr. and Chris Brister with the Winnsboro State Bank joined Good Morning ArkLaMiss to talk about their upcoming concert fundraiser.
The third annual John Brown Sr. Memorial Scholarship band concert will take place at the Dixie Theater in Ruston on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
Winnsboro State Bank is the presenting sponsor for the event this year.
The concert features local musicians performing Yacht Rock favorites from the 70s and 80s.
All proceeds from the event will go toward the John L. Brown Sr. Memorial Music Scholarship.
The scholarship was created in 2023 in honor of professional musician, John Brown Sr.
Brown was born in Franklin Parish, and moved to Nashville in the early 70s. He spent more than 20 years playing drums for Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Donna Fargo, Conway Twitty and more.
In 2023, Brown was honored with a Northeast Louisiana Music Trail marker in his hometown, Gilbert.
The scholarship is open to students in Franklin Parish, but this year, they will also be making a donation to the Ruston Middle School music department.
They says music students will be welcome free of charge.
There will also be a silent auction featuring music memorabilia from artists such as Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Chris Stapleton, Kix Brooks, Lainey Wilson and more.
Over the last two years, the John L Brown Sr. Memorial Music Scholarship has awarded just under $10,000 in scholarships and music equipment to local high school music departments.
