Three Canyon Crest Academy seniors have been selected as 2025 Coca-Cola Scholars. Students Sarah Gao, Amina Abysheva and Hayden Crocker are among just 150 students across the country picked from a pool of over 105,000 applicants to receive a $20,000 college scholarship.
“We are incredibly proud of Sarah, Amina, and Hayden for earning this national recognition,” said Canyon Crest Academy Principal Brett Killeen in a news release. “Their selection is a testament to their dedication, leadership, and commitment to making a meaningful impact in our communities.”
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is the largest corporate-sponsored, achievement-based scholarship program in the United States. In addition to the scholarship, the students have also been invited to attend the Coca-Cola Scholars Weekend in Atlanta, April 3-6.
Canyon Crest Academy is the only school in the country to have three students selected for the honor—and each is incredibly accomplished.
Hayden is the co-founder of Go Greenish, a youth-led environmental organization that gets students and schools involved in climate change education and implementation.  Last year he was named one of San Diego County’s 25 Most Remarkable Teens by the Office of the Public Defender, earned the President’s Environmental Youth Award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and was recognized by both the Jewish Community Foundation San Diego and Helen Diller Family Foundation for practicing Tikkun Olam, a Jewish concept that means “repairing the world.”
Amina currently serves as a student board member on the San Diego County Board of Education, representing District 5. She plays basketball and lacrosse, volunteers at Scripps and has been a research intern at UC San Diego Institute of Engineering Medicine. She also is very interested in advocacy and is secretary of the International Justice Organization group.
Sarah was selected to represent California this month in the United States Senate Youth Program in Washington D.C., where she will learn from government officials. She is also the president of the School Site Council at Canyon Crest Academy, vice chair of the City of San Diego Youth Commission, and founder/executive director of Coast2Canyon, a student-led group that focuses on biodiversity, environmental education and water quality.
