ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – A scholarship that’s not only a reward for students’ hard work, but one that’s also near and dear to KTTC.
In its second year, three area students received the Pat Lund Post Secondary Scholarship.
“I grew up watching him on the news and I was in athletics, so to find out somebody I’d watched in the news had had such a success with dyslexia especially, was just super cool,” recipient Anders Braaten said.
Brooke Blegen, Anders Braaten, and Audrey Redalen were named this year’s recipients.
“It definitely validated all of the hard work because it was a lot of hard work to get through high school and get the grades that I did,” recipient Brooke Blegen said. “It so it was nice to get something from that.”
Lund, who passed away two years ago, was KTTC’s sports director for over 30 years and an alumnus of the Reading Center in Rochester.
Lund endured challenges from dyslexia his entire life. His family dedicates this scholarship to him as a way of giving back to others faced with the same challenges.
“Growing up, watching Pat on TV, I never even really thought that he was dyslexic,” said recipient Audrey Redalen. “Him being able to find his passion just shows you that you can do whatever you want and whatever you set your mind to.”
According to the Reading Center, the scholarship is available to any alumni of the center who is looking to pursue a college education.
The scholarship gives students $1,000/year for up to four years of college.
