The Rotary Club of Selma honored five local students who will receive scholarships from the club’s Renee Kelley Wilkerson Memorial Scholarship fund.
Students selected include Sydney Pritchett of Selma High School, Delaney McHugh of Morgan Academy, Kenlynn Lawrence of Meadowview Christian Academy, Radiance Ransom of Dallas County High School and Saniya Wilson of Saints Virtual Academy.
All scholars will receive at least $400 in scholarship money. Each school’s representative gave a five-minute speech to the club members.
Members ranked the speeches to see who would receive the first, second and third place scholarship prizes that range up to $2,500. The club will announce winners at a future club meeting.
Jerria Martin, club scholarship chairperson, said the club had a tough decision between them.
“All five of them are outstanding students and very deserving of scholarships,” Martin said. “I would like to congratulate all of five of them.”
